GLS patrons have many choices when it comes to what to read and ways to access the material.
Find Books in the GLS Catalog
Explore the collection of books available to request on a Talking Book Player cartridge, or to download directly. Anyone can view the GLS Catalog is open for viewing by everyone; but only registered GLS patrons can receive books.
BARD – Braille And Audio Reading Download
Find and download digital audio and braille books and magazines for playback using the BARD Mobile app. Get the latest version of the BARD software. Access to the BARD collection is restricted to registered GLS patrons.
Printed Braille
Printed braille materials are available to borrow or own, via two different programs. Borrow braille books owned by the Utah State Library Program for the Blind & Disabled, courtesy of the partnership between our libraries. Request and keep free printed hard copies of up to five BARD braille titles per month, using the NLS Braille On Demand service.
NLS Music
The NLS music collection includes braille and large-print musical scores, recorded instructional materials, and recorded materials about music and musicians. Unlike books and magazines, music materials must be requested directly from NLS headquarters in Washington, D.C.
NLS – The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled
Visit the central administrative authority for all our services. NLS is a department of the Library of Congress, and serves as the headquarters for the nationwide network of libraries of which GLS is a member.
Bookshare
Choose from among more than a million titles in a wide variety of accessible electronic formats. The Bookshare collection is free to registered GLS patrons, and supplements what’s available from the GLS Catalog and BARD.
Georgia Public Library Service
Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS) is the administrative agency for Georgia’s public libraries and offers a wealth of tools and resources for the public and for library staff. GLS is a department of GPLS.
PINES
GLS patrons can borrow large print books and audio-described movies from the PINES network of public libraries in Georgia. Every GLS patron gets a PINES card, and can receive these materials by mail.
