2024 Summer Reading Events and Activities
In addition to reading, you can earn points for Summer Reading by attending in-person and virtual events, or completing any of the activities listed below. You will receive one for each event or activity. Remember to report your points.

- Attend GLS Tech Talk (virtual) on June 13 (Adults and Teens)
- Attend the GLS For Grown Folks Only Book Club (virtual) on June 14 (Adults)
- Attend a GLS cooking class on Zoom (June 15 adults and teens, June 20 kids 0-12)
- Attend Bingo and Talent Show at Athens-Clarke County Library (in person) on June 17 (Adults)
- Attend the GLS Peer Support Group (virtual) on June 21 (Adults)
- Play Bingo at GLS Atlanta (in person) on June 24 (Adults)
- Attend the NLS Virtual Kickoff on June 26 (All Ages)
- Attend Origami Butterfly Workshop at GLS Atlanta (in person) on June 28 (Adults and Teens)
- Attend the NLS Adult Author Talk (virtual) on June 29
- Attend the NLS Turtle Dance Music event (virtual) on July 6 (Kids up to age 8)
- Attend a GLS Zoom check-in meeting in July (July 12 adults, July 13 kids 0-12, July 24 teens)

Activities to Do on Your Own
- Make an origami butterfly. Instructions: Written, Visual, Tips
- Send your origami butterfly to GLS for the Flock of Butterflies art display.
- Make a paper airplane. Learn paper airplane making from Perkins School for the Blind.
- Write a book review and share it with family, friends, or on Beanstack.
- Read together with friends or family.
- Attend a program at your local public library.
- Visit a museum, zoo, historic site, state park, or other place of interest. * Bonus point if you use one of the free passes available from your library to visit the site.
- Create your ideal reading nook: set up a comfortable place to read.
- Use GALILEO to research a topic that interests you. (Login with library card/password.)
- Discover digital treasures from Georgia’s history at the Digital Library of Georgia.
- Find fast facts on Georgia topics with the New Georgia Encyclopedia.
- Find free legal forms in the Georgia Legal Forms Library. (Login with library card/password.)
- Read a book on the beach, on a mountainside, or your best summer outdoor happy place.
- Visit a national park.
- Check out books about gardening and get growing, indoors or outdoors.
- Listen to the birds and learn how to identify them by the sounds they make. Learn some bird ID tips from Cornell Lab of Ornithology, or download their Merlin Bird ID app and use Sound ID
- Explore the NLS Music Materials collection
- Explore the Bookshare collection and try out the new Bookshare Reader app
- Subscribe to GLS News, our quarterly newsletter available in several accessible formats.
- Visit the GLS blog to stay up to date on news you can use from your talking book library.
