Programming is an integral component of GLS services. Programs developed, implemented, and sponsored by GLS provide additional opportunities for information, learning and entertainment for our patrons. Programs are designed to meet the educational, cultural, and recreational needs and interests of our patrons.

The goal of GLS programming is to:

    • Expand the role of GLS as a resource to print impaired community
    • Introduce patrons and non-users of GLS to the Library’s resources
    • Provide entertainment
    • Provide opportunities for lifelong learning
    • Expand the visibility of GLS in the community

GLS staff uses the following criteria in making decisions about program topics, speakers, and accompanying resources:

    • Patron’s needs and interests
    • Presentation quality
    • Presenter background/qualifications in content area
    • Relevance to community interests and issues
    • Historical or educational significance
    • Connection to other community programs or events
    • Relation to Library collections and resources

Providing open access to information and ideas is a goal for library programming. Anyone interested in presenting a library program may submit a proposal that will be reviewed according to the above criteria. Library sponsorship of a program does not constitute an endorsement of the content of the program, or the views expressed by participants.

All programs at the library are open to GLS registered patrons and when applicable the general public and are normally offered free of charge. Due to space limitations or due to the nature of the program, attendance at programs may be limited. Registration for programs may be done by calling the library at 404-657-1452 or 1-800-248-6701. Some library programs may not require registration.
